Hey there! I'm Jennifer from The Vanzant Family! I blog about the everyday life with three babies under two! Yes, you heard that right. I have three babies under the age of two. My twins are almost 18 months old and our newest addition is two months! Im going to share with you some snacking ideas for toddlers!
I know it’s hard to get most toddlers to eat. Mine are actually great eaters. They have been since they were very small. I started them early on finger foods and they’ve loved eating and snacking ever since. They do get picky on some days and those days it is hard to get them to eat something somewhat healthy. It seems on those days all they want is mac n cheese! So I've been making some treats for them for those type of picky days so we don’t have to resort to mac n cheese every time.
I LOVED these and so do the twins! They are “ice cream” sandwiches without the ice cream. Its amazing how they taste just like the real thing.
- Graham Crackers
- Cool whip/whip cream
- “toppings” of your choice
- Any add-ins (I used nutella)
Break the graham crackers in half. Add the cool whip and top with the other cracker. I then put Oreo dust on the sides to make it a little more fun. If you prefer a healthier choice there are so many things you can do here. I also used peanuts, plain sprinkles, and even graham cracker dust. I took the cool whip and mixed it with a little nutella and used that as the filling on some of them! This is something you can play around with and add healthier choices! Its really fun for the kids to get involved on this treat making!
Put the sandwiches on a cookie sheet and freeze. When they are frozen I took them out and wrapped them in individual bags and put them back in the freezer. Then you are able to enjoy one at a time any time!
Another fun and easy snack is frozen bananas on a stick! My toddlers are getting their molars in still with their eye teeth. So they tend to be in pain when they wake up from their naps. What better way to help that then a frozen treat? I cut up the bananas and then rolled them in graham cracker dust! I put them on popsicle sticks to make it fun! Again, you can do so much here and have fun with it! I even used dark chocolate on some of them! Yummy, healthy and delicious;)
I made some homemade pound cake last week and it was delicious. The recipe I used made more than I had intended so I made some treat for the twins with it as well.
Strawberry Short Cake Kabobs
Grab your babies and your skewers (I used plastic popsicle sticks) and have fun with this! I cut the strawberries in half and the pound cake in little squares. I added cool whip in between each piece of strawberry and cake! Viola!
Some other great and healthy snacks:
- celery with peanut butter and topped with raisins (ants on a log)
- Mine love guacamole! They eat it by itself but would be great with dippers such as multi-grain chips and other veggies.
- Hummus with whole wheat pita bread
- carrots! I boil them until they are tender with a pinch of salt
- Chicken nuggets with sweet potato wash instead of an egg wash
- frozen grapes (great for teething)!!
If you have trouble getting your toddler to eat healthy (we have those days too) try sneaking in some healthy ingredients. I once made homemade macaroni and cheese and snuck broccoli puree in it! Just be creative and have fun with it!
Thanks to JVclothiers for having me!!
